Why Surface screens cost more than laptop screens
On a Surface, the touch glass, digitiser and LCD are one bonded assembly glued into the magnesium body. Replacing it means heating and lifting the old panel without damaging the battery underneath, then sealing the new one. It takes longer and the part costs more than a standard laptop panel – but it is far cheaper than a new Surface.

Can a cracked Surface screen be repaired?
The glass can’t be repaired, but the whole screen assembly can be replaced. The Surface itself is fine afterwards.
Does Microsoft repair Surface screens?
Microsoft generally replaces the entire device for a flat fee rather than repairing the screen, which usually costs more and means losing your data. We replace just the screen.
How long does a Surface screen repair take?
One to two days, mostly waiting for the adhesive to cure properly. We don’t rush this step.
Will I lose my data?
No. The screen replacement doesn’t touch the storage.
