How much does it cost to fix or replace a laptop screen?

How much would it cost to fix a laptop screen?

It depends on the screen, not the laptop brand. A standard 14″ or 15.6″ HD or Full HD panel is the cheapest fix; touchscreens, 17″ and 4K or high-refresh gaming panels cost more. The price includes the panel and the fitting. Call or text 0421 388 876 with your model number and we’ll give you a firm price in minutes. See the price guide for the tiers.

How much does a laptop screen repair cost?

A laptop screen can’t be repaired once the panel is cracked or has dead areas – it’s replaced. So “repair cost” and “replacement cost” are the same thing: the panel plus fitting. Common sizes are in stock and fitted the same day; unusual panels are ordered and take 1–2 days.

How much is it to fix a laptop screen?

Ask us with the model number (on the sticker under the laptop) and we’ll quote while you’re on the phone. There’s no diagnostic fee and no charge if we can’t fix it.

How much to fix a laptop screen?

The price is set by three things: screen size, resolution (HD vs Full HD vs 2K/4K) and whether it is a touchscreen. We stock the common panels, so most quotes can be fitted the same day.

How much does a laptop screen replacement cost?

Screen replacement is priced on the panel. HD panels are cheapest, Full HD a little more, touch and high-resolution panels the most. Every replacement includes fitting and a warranty on the screen.

How much would it cost to repair a laptop screen?

If the screen is cracked, has lines or a black area, the panel is replaced – the rest of the laptop is untouched. If the screen is flickering or dark but not cracked, the fault can be the display cable or hinge, which is usually cheaper than a panel. We test before quoting.

How much would it cost to replace a laptop screen?

Text the model number to 0421 388 876 and we’ll reply with the price. Standard 15.6″ panels are the most affordable and usually in stock.

How much does it cost to fix a laptop screen?

How much to fix a computer screen?

For a laptop, the screen panel is replaced and priced by size and type. For a desktop monitor, repairs are rarely economical unless it’s a high-end monitor – we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth fixing.

How much does it cost to change a laptop screen?

Changing (replacing) a laptop screen costs the panel plus fitting. HD is cheapest; Full HD, touch and 4K panels cost more. Same-day for in-stock sizes.

How much to replace an HP laptop screen?

HP uses standard panels, so an HP 15, Pavilion or ProBook screen is priced like any other laptop of the same size and resolution. Touch x360 and OLED Spectre panels cost more. See HP screen replacement.

How much is a new laptop screen?

The new panel is most of the cost; fitting is included in our price. We don’t sell panels on their own for DIY – a wrong part number is the most common reason a DIY screen doesn’t work.

How much is a laptop screen replacement?

Priced on the panel: size, resolution and touch or not. Ask with the model number for a firm figure.

How much is it to repair a laptop screen?

Panel replacement is the only repair for a cracked screen. Cable or hinge faults are cheaper. We’ll diagnose which it is for free.

Other common questions

How long does a laptop screen replacement take?

Under an hour if the panel is in stock, which it is for most 14″ and 15.6″ laptops. Ordered panels take 1–2 days.

Can a cracked laptop screen be repaired without replacing it?

No. An LCD panel can’t be repaired once cracked. The panel is swapped; your data, keyboard and everything else stay as they were.

Will I lose my data?

No. A screen replacement doesn’t touch the storage. You don’t need to back up first, though it’s always a good habit.

Do you fix touchscreens?

Yes. On touch laptops the digitiser and panel are one assembly, so the whole assembly is replaced. It costs more than a standard panel.

Is it worth fixing or should I buy a new laptop?

If the laptop is under four years old and otherwise works, a new screen is almost always worth it – a fraction of the cost of a new machine, and you keep your programs and data. If it isn’t worth it, we’ll say so.

Do you need my laptop password?

Not for a screen replacement. We only need to see the display working, which we can do from the login screen.

Which brands do you repair?

HP, Lenovo, Dell, Asus, Acer, MSI, Microsoft Surface, Chromebooks and most others. See the HP, Lenovo and Surface pages, or call for anything else.

Brands and models

Do you replace Dell laptop screens?

Yes – Inspiron, Latitude, Vostro, XPS and Alienware. Inspiron and Latitude use standard 14″ and 15.6″ panels that are usually in stock; XPS high-resolution and touch panels are ordered and take 1–2 days. Call or text 0421 388 876 with the model.

Do you replace Asus laptop screens?

Yes – VivoBook, ZenBook, TUF and ROG. VivoBook panels are standard and often same day; ZenBook OLED and ROG high-refresh panels are matched to the exact part number and take 1–2 days.

Do you replace Acer laptop screens?

Yes – Aspire, Swift, Nitro and Predator. Aspire 15.6″ panels are among the cheapest and quickest screens we do. Nitro and Predator gaming panels are matched to the original refresh rate.

Do you repair MSI and gaming laptop screens?

Yes. Gaming laptops use 144Hz, 165Hz or 240Hz panels. We fit the correct high-refresh part, not a 60Hz substitute – a common shortcut that leaves the screen working but noticeably worse.

Do you replace Chromebook screens?

Yes – HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Samsung Chromebooks, 11.6″ and 14″. Chromebook panels are inexpensive and usually same day.

Do you repair HP laptop screens?

Yes – HP 15, Pavilion, Envy, EliteBook, ProBook, Omen, Spectre and x360 touch models. See HP screen replacement.

Do you repair Lenovo laptop screens?

Yes – IdeaPad, ThinkPad, Yoga, Legion and LOQ. See Lenovo screen replacement.

Do you repair Microsoft Surface screens?

Yes – Surface Pro, Laptop, Go and Book. These are glued assemblies, so allow 1–2 days. See Surface screen repair.

Do you repair MacBook screens?

Yes, through our sister businesses MacBook Screens and MacBook Fixer at the same Bentleigh East address.

Screen problems and what they mean

Cracked Asus laptop screen before replacement
A cracked Asus touchscreen – the glass and panel are one assembly, replaced together.

My laptop screen is flickering – is it the screen?

Not always. Flickering that changes when you move the lid is usually the display cable or hinge, which is cheaper than a panel. Flickering at any lid angle is more likely the panel or backlight. We test both for free before quoting.

My laptop screen has lines on it – can it be fixed?

Vertical or horizontal lines that stay in the same place are a damaged panel and need replacement. Lines that appear only on an external monitor as well point to the graphics chip instead – we’ll tell you which.

My laptop screen is black but the laptop is on – what’s wrong?

Shine a torch at the screen: if you can faintly see the desktop, the backlight has failed and the panel is replaced. If it’s completely blank and an external monitor works, the panel or cable is at fault. If nothing works on an external monitor either, it’s a motherboard or graphics issue.

My laptop screen is cracked but still works – do I need to replace it?

A cracked panel keeps spreading and can short the backlight, and a cracked touchscreen often registers ghost touches. Replacing it early is cheaper than waiting for it to fail completely.

Can a laptop screen with water damage be repaired?

If only the panel is affected (dark patches, blotches), it’s replaced like any other screen. If liquid reached the keyboard or motherboard, that’s a separate repair – bring it in switched off and we’ll assess it.

Why does my laptop screen go dark past a certain angle?

A worn or pinched display cable in the hinge. Replacing the cable fixes it without a new panel, provided the panel itself is undamaged.

My touchscreen laptop isn’t responding to touch – is that the screen?

Usually, yes. On most laptops the digitiser is bonded to the panel, so a touch fault means the assembly is replaced. Occasionally it’s a driver issue – we check that first because it’s free.

DIY, parts and buying screens

Can I replace a laptop screen myself?

On some older laptops, yes, if you have the exact panel part number, a plastic spudger and a steady hand. The most common DIY failures we see are the wrong panel (there are often 5–10 variants per model), a cracked bezel, and a torn display cable. If you’ve started and got stuck, bring it in – we’ll finish it.

Do you sell laptop screens or a laptop screen repair kit?

We don’t sell panels for DIY. The price of our replacement includes fitting, so for most people it costs little more than buying the panel alone – and you get the right part first time with a warranty.

Do you use genuine or compatible laptop screens?

Most laptop brands don’t make their own panels; they buy them from LG, BOE, AUO, Innolux and Samsung. We fit the same panel grades the manufacturers use, matched to the original part number or a direct equivalent in size, resolution, connector and refresh rate.

Can I upgrade my laptop screen from HD to Full HD?

Often, yes. If the laptop has a 30-pin eDP connector (most since 2015), an HD (1366×768) panel can usually be swapped for a Full HD IPS panel for a small extra cost. Brighter, sharper, better viewing angles. Ask when you book.

Can you replace a glossy screen with a matte one?

Yes, if a matte panel exists for that size and connector – most 14″ and 15.6″ sizes have both. Matte is better in bright rooms; glossy has slightly richer colour.

Warranty, time and process

Do you offer a warranty on laptop screen replacement?

Yes – every screen we fit is covered for the panel and the fitting. Accidental damage after the repair isn’t covered, so a screen protector or sleeve is worth it.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes – just text or call 0421 388 876 before you come so we have the screen ready. Open 5am–11pm, 7 days.

Can you do same-day laptop screen repair?

Yes, for most 14″ and 15.6″ laptops the panel is in stock and fitted while you wait. Unusual sizes, touch and gaming panels are ordered and done in 1–2 days.

Do you offer pick-up or mobile laptop screen repair?

Ask when you call. For screens, the repair is best done on the bench, but we can arrange pick-up and return in the local area.

What should I bring with the laptop?

Just the laptop and its charger. We don’t need your password for a screen replacement – we only need to see the display working at the login screen.

Is laptop screen repair cheaper than buying a new laptop?

Almost always, if the laptop is under four years old and otherwise works. See the price guide and the “is it worth fixing” answer above.
